ENGINE/TRANSMISSION (AUTO) Removal
The engine and transmission unit is removed in a similar manner to that described previously for manual transmission models.
In this case, however, obviously no clutch slave cylinder will be fitted.
The kickdown linkage control rod must be disconnected from the carburettor throttle lever before the carburettor can be removed .
Instead of the manual gearchange assembly, the gear selector cable must be disconnected at the transmission. To do this, first remove the cover plate (or rubber sleeve on early models) from the bell-crank arm. Slacken the locknut at the selector cable fork and remove the fork, locknut, both rubber ferrules and the sleeve (where fitted) from the cable. Remove the cable front adjusting nut from the outer cable and pull the cable clear of the bracket or abutment on the transmission .
The drive shafts in this case have a universal-jointed flange at the inboard end and this locates on studs in the final drive unit flange. The flanges are secured by four self-locking nuts .
When lifting out the power unit, raise it only sufficiently at first to release the drive shafts from the studs on the driving flanges.

Installation

When installing the- power unit, lower it into the engine compartment to a position where the drive shaft flanges can be engaged on the studs on the final drive unit flanges and screw the nuts on loosely. Tighten the nuts fully once the power unit is lowered into position.
After reconnecting the gear selector cable, it must be adjusted as detailed in the 'AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION' section.
Also, after reconnecting the kickdown linkage control rod, the linkage setting should be checked and adjusted if necessary.
